October Food Fun with Slow Cooked Pittsburgh! C'mon out!

There are quite a few great food events coming up in October, not too surprising since Fall cooking is awesome cooking. Let's see, the first events just so happen to be ones in which I am teaching or participating.

  • October 1st, 1-3 p.m, Boyd Community Center. Herb Harvesting and Drying. Learn about Pittsburgh native plants and herbs and their cooking, aromatic and nutritional qualities. Season your cooking to perfection and steep tisanes for relaxation and healing in this hands-on workshop. Take home seeds and teas. This class is part of a larger series that also includes outdoor cooking, a pie workshop and a honey class. Check it out! (Oh yeah, I'm teaching the herb class...)
  • October 2nd, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Picklefest, This fabulous first-time event is being put together by my favorite folks over at Slow Food Pittsburgh and is being hosted by my favorite local artisan ethical charcutiers over in their brand spankin' new storefront, Crested Duck. I'm doing a little sumpin' sumpin', perhaps a workshop, perhaps more, if you want to find out, you'll have to come on by. And while you're at, bring some pickles!
  • October 12th, 6 p.m. Greek Wine Dinner at the Omni William Penn Terrace Room. Dreadnought will be pairing wines to accompany fabulous food from Jacky Francois at the Omni William Penn Terrace Room. Greek food + Greek wine + anything Omni = mmmmmmm.
  • October 15th, 10 a.m.-4 pm. Home Cheesemaking for Beginners, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture (PASA). This looks like a blast!
Well, I'm sure there are many more, especially with pumpkin season coming up, but I'm going to leave it here for early October top picks. Hope to see you!
